The race starts at 9:30 a.m. at The Forks. Participants can register as individuals, teams and families (between four to eight members) at events.runningroom.com. Everyone is encouraged to wear green and gold.

The registration deadline is Thursday, March 10, and Manitoba Running Association members can receive a $43 discount off the signup fee.

Lunch with a purpose

March is Childhood Arthritis Month. To help raise awareness about the approximately 24,000 Canadian children living with some form of the condition, The Arthritis Society is holding their second annual Faces of Childhood Arthritis Luncheon on Wednesday, March 9 at The Fairmont Winnipeg.

At the event, some of the 600 Manitoba children living with Juvenile Arthritis will share their stories and experiences. Tickets for the luncheon are $75 and available at arthritis.ca.

Heads up

March 14 to 20 is international Brain Injury Awareness Week. About 160,000 Canadians sustain some form of brain injury each year, according to Brain Injury Canada, and the rate is steadily increasing.

About half of these injuries are from falls and motor vehicle accidents, but others are sport-sustained or violence-related.

During this week, advocacy organizations around the world are reminding people to wear helmets when playing contact sports and follow the rules of organized games. More facts about the prevalence and dangers of brain injuries are available at traumaticbraininjury.com.
