The Skilled Trades and Technology Centre celebrated the anniversary of the first class held in the building on August 28, 2019 with a tour. Gail Little of Pico Architecture, and Doug Hanna of Number Ten Architectural Group, led 20 people through the building.
The Skilled Trades and Technology Centre was designed to “break down barriers,” while being functional, visible and open to the public. ERIC ANTONIOThe work benches in this construction workshop were made by students. “We’ve has students run back into their room when they come for their next level, so they can see their bench,” said Little, from Pico Architecture. BRIANNE FIEBELKORNDesigned with both looks and practicality in mind, classrooms features state-of-the-art equipment so students can get a hands on learning experience . ERIC ANTONIOThe Skilled Trades and Technology Centre is three times as energy efficient as the Exchange District Campus, in part thanks to the use of natural lighting though windows and skylights. ERIC ANTONIOAccording to the tour leaders, over 70 per cent of skilled workers involved in the construction of the Skilled Trades and Technology Centre were former Red River College students.
