The Red River College Rebels are set to begin another season on the field and the court. Red River College will be fielding men’s and women’s teams in four sports – soccer, basketball, volleyball and futsal.
The athletic season for the college kicks off with the men’s and women’s soccer teams heading to Providence to take on the Pilots on Sept. 15. The first home action for the Rebels will be the next day, as both teams will take on St. Boniface at Norm Konowalchuk Soccer Fields.
Playing in a six-team league, the Rebels men’s and women’s teams will play a home and away schedule, culminating in a Final Four at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex on Oct. 27, with the final taking place a day later.
Last year the women’s team went 4-3-4, and did not make the playoffs, and the men’s squad went 2-7-1, also not making the playoffs.
The men’s basketball team kicks off their schedule, playing in both the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) and the Northern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (NIAC). Their first game is on Sept 27, when they host St. Mary’s.
The men’s basketball team will look to defend its 2018 MCAC championship, and build on a playoff exit at the NIAC tournament.
The women’s basketball schedule gets underway on Nov. 3 and 4 when they travel to Minnesota to take on the Association Free Lutheran Bible School as part of their NIAC schedule. Their home schedule opens up next week on Nov. 10 when they host the Providence University College Pilots in the back end of a home and home.
The women’s basketball team lost in the finals of the MCAC, and in the semi-finals at the NIAC tournament.
The MCAC basketball Final Four takes place on Feb. 8-9 and the NIAC tournament takes place on Feb. 14-16.
Both Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams will be looking to avenge MCAC semi-final losses this season. Their regular season schedule begins on Nov. 3, when both teams host Assiniboine Community College.
Providence University College will host the semi-finals and finals for MCAC volleyball, set to take place on Feb. 23 and 24.
The men’s and women’s futsal teams also play an identical schedule, which kicks off on Jan. 12 when Red River College hosts Providence University College. Both teams will be looking to rebound after not making the playoffs last year.
There will be added motivation for the Futsal teams this year, as Red River College will host the MCAC Futsal finals on March 9-10.
